Description
The Rome Area Veterans Support Group will present the second annual holiday concert performance by the New Horizons Barbershop Chorus, Mohak Valley Chapter to honor local area veterans on Sunday, December 1 from 2:00-3:30 pm at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1807 Bedford Street in Rome. The concert is free and open to the public. “The annual concert continues a tradition started last year as a special recognition honoring local veterans’ efforts for their many years of giving assistance to fellow veterans and families in transitioning from military service to civilian life, aiding in obtaining veteran affairs services, connecting members to other veteran support groups and community programs, and supporting the resettling and befriending of legal refugees in Rome,” according to James Nichter, Rome Area Veterans Support Group spokesperson. “The Veterans Support Group ‘lives’ the concept that we are our brothers’ keepers and by sharing fellowship and a meal on the first Sunday of each month, our aim is to mitigate problems unique to veterans,” added Nichter. The concert will highlight songs covering patriotic as well as religious and secular Christmas holiday themes. Included will be segments for audience singalongs of selected holiday and patriotic favorites with musical accompaniment. A reception will follow the concert in the St. Paul’s Parish Center at no cost to the public. Free will offerings are accepted. The public is encouraged to arrive at St. Paul’s Church by 1:30 pm on the day of the show. Pew seating will be on a first come, first served basis.
