Description
Free, fun and unique arts events for children are happening at Rome Art and Community Center on the first Saturdays of June, July, and August! Music, Art & Stories! is a series of five events that combine music, a familiar children’s story, and an instructor-led multi-age art experience. Each event includes a lively family concert with kid-friendly pops, marches, and a narrated musical story, followed directly by an art project themed with the concert. The concert and story are presented by Alliance Classical Players of Rome, while the art project is led by RACC instructor Kathy Bruno. The dates, times and featured stories are: June 4 at 10:30 – “Ferdinand the Bull” June 4 at 12:30 – “Alice in Wonderland” July 2 at 10:30 – “Aesop’s Fables” July 2 at 12:30 – “Fish is Fish” August 6 at 10:30 – “Neverland – the Story of Peter Pan” The concerts each contain different programs, and include the above-listed musical stories, plus other lively selections such as Themes from Harry Potter, Happy, What a Wonderful World, The Sound of Music and many more. The July 2 events will include extra music on a patriotic theme, including several Sousa marches, Yankee Doodle and America the Beautiful. The concerts are performed by musicians of Alliance Classical Players, which include Corni Brewster, flute; Jan Bookhout, oboe; Colleen O’Neil, clarinet; Judy Marchione, bassoon; Claire McKenney, French horn; and Beth Evans, narrator. Each single event lasts about 75-90 minutes total, including the concert and art project. Children from Pre-school through elementary school age will enjoy Music, Art & Stories! All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of the events. Participants may attend as many events as they wish, and all events are free admission! Reservations are appreciated, but not required; RACC has plenty of room for all who attend. Folks attending the morning and afternoon events on the same day are invited to bring their own picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds of the Art Center, if they wish. For additional information, please call Rome Art and Community Center at 315-336-1040. RACC is located at 308 West Bloomfield St., Rome. Music, Art & Stories! is made possible with funds from the ReStart NY Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts.
