Description
Rome-based chamber music ensemble Alliance Classical Players and Grace Episcopal Church are collaborating in a concert featuring the wind/piano quintets of Mozart and Beethoven, with guest pianist, Elyane Laussade of Australia. A graduate of the Juilliard school in New York City, pianist Elyane Laussade has delighted audiences on five continents with her imaginative and strongly individual playing. The New York Times has said she is “a pianist with a powerful, polished technique and many an original interpretive notion…. with an impeccable sense of style and dazzling power.” Originally from the USA, she is now based in Melbourne and has established herself as one of Australia’s finest performers. The concert will be held at the church, located at 6 Elizabeth St., Utica; admission is free, and the public is welcome. Other musicians on the program include oboist Janelle Bookhout, Rome clarinetists Kristin Kelly Hahn and Colleen O’Neil, bassoonist Judy Marchione and French horn player Claire McKenney. According to the musicians of Alliance Classical Players, “Mozart described his Quintet, K. 452 as ‘the best thing I have ever written,’ in a letter to his father in 1784. It explores the unusual combination of piano and wind quartet (oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn) and resembles a concerto both in its layout and interplay between the instruments. In 1796, the young Ludwig van Beethoven contributed another work for this instrumentation modeled on Mozart’s quintet. Both works have become favorites of the chamber wind repertoire, and we are looking forward to performing them with the wonderful pianist Elyane Laussade!” There will be a complimentary meet-the-musicians reception directly following the concert at the church.
