Description
Theaters Helping Theaters Directing Workshop If you are interested in learning new theater skills, the Theaters Helping Theaters group is offering a series of workshops. The Theaters Helping Theaters group is a collaboration among local theaters in an effort to pool resources, share expertise, continue to learn and grow as we encourage all aspects of the art form. Whether a beginner with the urge to become involved or a seasoned veteran, working together the theater community will be enhanced and flourish. The goal is to focus on the many varied aspects of the theatrical production. This year we have scheduled a series of workshops held in the Utica-Rome area. The upcoming workshop is on Stage Directing and will be Saturday, May 20, 10 am - 2 pm, at Players of Utica, 1108 State Street, Utica NY. The Directing Workshop will be presented by Rodney Hudson from the Syracuse University Department of Drama. This is the second workshop on stage directing presented by Rodney Hudson, there will be a brief overview from the first workshop. Topics to be covered include script (scene) analysis from the eyes of the director, the blocking process, assisting actors to develop their character, the importance/process of “getting off book”, and stage pictures. Participation in scene development will be explored during the workshop, with feedback from the instructor. Rodney Hudson has been an actor, singer, playwright, and stage director for the past 55 years. He has been teaching in the Syracuse University Drama Department for 23 years. He teaches, directing, musical theatre performance, and advanced voice verse. As an actor he has performed over 12 Shakespearean roles from Bolingbrook in Richard II to Malvolio in Twelfth Night for Syracuse Stage. He has also performed representative roles as Lenny in Of Mice and Men to Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and as a singer for Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris for Syracuse Stage. Rodney has been a soloist with 10 symphonic orchestras as St. Louis Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, and Pittsburgh Symphony. He performed in the Public Theatre’s production of Alice in Wonderland with Meryl Streep and acted in the two character film, Lady in Waiting, which was nominated for an Academy Award. As a director for SU’s drama department he has directed A Moon for the Misbegotten, Sunday in the Park with George, Agamemnon, Violet, Bat Boy, and The Wild Party.
